17 June 2016 Note: 2015 data were corrected to ensure that profiled businesses were counted in the Statistical Area Level 2 (SA2) "Currently Unknown" category of their main state/territory of operation, rather than the SA2 encompassing their business address. Profiled businesses are generally large, multilocation businesses with a business address in the central business district of a capital city. Explanatory Notes 6-10 provide further information about profiled businesses. The impact of the correction was to reduce business counts for some SA2s, particularly those in central business districts of capital cities, and to increase SA2 "Currently Unknown" category counts for each state and territory. The correction improved comparability with previous years, for which profiled businesses had been assigned to the SA2 "Currently Unknown" category of their main state/territory of operation.

A comprehensive review of SA2 coding was undertaken in association with this correction. The objective of this review was to improve the accuracy of small area business data and to maximise its comparability over time. The main outcome of the review was improved coding of business addresses producing reductions in SA2 "Currently Unknown" category numbers. This outcome improved the quality of originally published 2013, 2014 and 2015 data.
